Principal

Born and raised in Henrico County, Virginia, Cathrine McGuire-Mireles has always called the Commonwealth home. Her journey into Christian education, however, began in 2016 when God led her away from the public school system and right to Banner Christian—where her son was already thriving as a student. It was a clear call, and one she joyfully answered.

With an impressive 30-year career in education, Cathrine holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Regent University. But more than the credentials, it’s her heart for discipleship that defines her career. After years in public schools, she began to sense a deep dissonance between her work and her biblical convictions. Through her doctoral research and exposure to studies by Barna and the Nehemiah Institute, she saw a troubling trend: many young Christians lose their faith during their college years. This realization sharpened her calling—education wasn’t just a job, it was her ministry.

Her passion for “Kingdom Education” drew her to Banner Christian, a school rooted in biblical truth and designed to help students grow both spiritually and academically. Cathrine loves that Banner is committed to cultivating a Kingdom worldview in its students—one that’s practical, intentional, and deeply rooted in Christ.

When she’s not shaping young minds, you might find Cathrine buried in a book, writing, or planning her next travel adventure. She and her husband, along with their son, also spend time working with family in Mexico doing missionary work alongside her brother-in-law, a local pastor. Whether in the classroom or across the border, Cathrine’s heart beats for service, truth, and spiritual growth.
