Mike Owings

Banner Christian School is privileged to have Mr. Mike Owings as its principal, a central-Virginia native who is deeply committed to the school's mission. The school's motto, "Christ first, education second to none," is not just a phrase to Mike; it's a guiding principle that he wholeheartedly believes in.

Mike is passionate about ensuring that every student at Banner Christian experiences this motto in their educational journey. He's not just an administrator; he's a hands-on leader who is willing to do whatever it takes to bring the school's mission to life. Whether it's teaching a class, coaching a team, or leading a field trip, Mike is there, ensuring that the students receive the best education with Christ at the center.

Mike's educational journey includes a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Mary Washington and a master's degree in educational administration from Columbia International University. In college, he was an all-conference runner and an athlete who embraced adventure. He spent time working as a commercial salmon fisherman in Alaska, followed by a season of "semi-pro" football as a defensive back after graduation.

Today, Mike's adventurous spirit is channeled into hiking and canoeing, and he loves to landscape the wooded property around his home. When he's not in the great outdoors, he's an avid reader. However, his true joy comes from spending quality time with his family. Mike and his wife, Becky, who is Banner Culpeper's second-grade teacher, have been married for over 26 years, and together, they are proud parents to five remarkable young individuals.

As the principal of Banner Christian School, Mike Owings looks forward to the wonderful opportunities and experiences that the Lord has in store for the Banner family in the future. His dedication to the school's mission, strong educational background, and love for adventure and family make him a valuable asset to the Banner community.
